Youth Consultation
Peterborough Youth Service
2003 - 2004 Report
National Visitors to the Young People’s Office!
As the Young People’s Office is quite unique in what it does, we tend to get a
lot of outside interest. This year we have had many visitors come to the Young
People’s Office.
A group of young people from South End Essex Youth Service came up to visit the
office. They came to see what young people get up to in Peterborough and see why
the Young People’s Office was so important. The young people had a great time
and enjoyed talking to other people their age.
Another group of young people from Cambridge came to see the Young People’s
Office. They had a blast of capturing Peterborough in words and digital photos.
Youth Consultation split up into groups and each person from YCP looked after a
group and took them around town to take photos. It was great fun and once again
everyone enjoyed the day out.
Youth Consultation had a visit from two German youth workers to see what youth
work and youth participation was all about. They were extremely impressed by how
Youth Consultation was run and very taken aback at how successfully we work with
adults. They explained that it was very different back in Germany.
A Scottish youth worker from Stirling came down to Peterborough to look at what
we were doing with PYPIN. This is because he had seen what we were going to
attempt to do with PYPIN on our web site and was trying to do a similar thing in
Scotland. He was very interested in our work and I think he left with some good
ideas on how his website could develop.
The Lord and Lady Mayor of Peterborough visited the office to see what Youth
Consultation was all about, and they had a great time. We explained how Youth
Consultation worked and what good it did for Peterborough and the young people
in Peterborough. The Mayor seemed to think youth consultation was a great idea
and enjoyed his visit.
Youth Consultation has also been visited by the police, Councillors, Connexions
workers and youth workers from all around Peterborough, young people and adults,
friends and family. All the visits we have had have been successful, have built
bridges and help us to work in partnership with other organisations.
