Youth Consultation
Peterborough Youth Service
2003 - 2004 Report
Personal Development
We have enjoyed this year as it has given us a lot of confidence and has made us
more aware of how important team work really is. We feel that personal problems
have sometimes got in the way of our work but we are young people and it is
expected of us to go through these things.
We have learnt some good skills on how to talk to people about Youth
Consultation and how to get ideas over to people clearly and strongly. We have
been listened to by the adults we work alongside and our ideas and views have
been taken seriously. We feel the only thing that we need to overcome is a fear
of talking in front of a large group of people. Some of us gave a speech to the
people at the Birmingham Conference and our nerves really showed.
We also think that we need a little more training on the computers on how to use
complex programs like Adobe Photoshop and how to build web pages and put work
onto the web. After this, we should be a lot more confident on doing work and
getting on with it without the need of adult support.
Something we think the young people working in Youth Consultation need are more
meetings as a team and more working together. This way the work we produce will
have a certain identity and will not look like one person’s point of view but a
whole team’s point of view. Everyone involved in Youth Consultation has their
own talents, and if we share that, our work will be twice as good as it is now.
