Youth Consultation

Young people’s involvement?

National Involvement
During the course of the year youth consultation has been involved in a lot of National work with Connexions. We have travelled up to Sheffield on regular occasions to give Connexions a young person’s perspective of how the young persons’ Portal web site need2know.co.uk should look. It was a great opportunity, especially as we were doing a similar project locally with PYPIN.

Also, Alice and Mel from Youth Consultation were invited to go to Stratford upon Avon by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for a Neighbourhood Renewal Government conference. They stayed for two days and were part of a young persons’ roving reporter team in partnership with the Youth Bank. They reported on the conference and the report was given to everyone in the form of a newsletter and web page.

Youth Consultation was involved in going to the YVote? YNot? review conference in Birmingham which resulted in the young people developing a government report on young people and voting. This report was handed over at 10 Downing Street by four young people from Youth Consultation.

Youth Consultation has also been on a residential trip to Derbyshire. This was in partnership with the Millennium Volunteers. It was a weekend residential that brought together young people from different areas to help make a website, for the experience of the weekend and to learn about what Millennium Volunteers do.

Jangher, who is our UKYP representative for Peterborough, was involved in going to Lancaster for a national sitting. He met all the other UKYP representatives from around the UK. He also had the opportunity to share his views and opinions on things that affect young people in Peterborough. When Jangher returned from his residential he made a webpage on his experience of being a part of UKYP.

Some other things Youth Consultation has been involved in include helping to organise and decide upon the distribution of grants to organisations that have asked for help from the Prince’s Trust. Also, we were involved in the interviewing and choosing of a new youth worker who will help and support the Young People’s Office.
