Your Vision
for Peterborough - Get involved! The Greater Peterborough Planning
project is all about changing our city for the better. Over the next few
months to few years Peterborough is going to be greatly improved, and
many ideas have been brought to the surface, safer streets, a
University, a café quarter in town with plazas, bigger facilities and
better areas. |

The context of
the Give Us Your Time project is to raise young people’s awareness of
the dangers involved in crime and the problems it can cause. We have
worked in partnership with Cambridgeshire Constabulary to bring accurate
information to young people about the crimes young people commit, the
sentences young people can be given in court and the warnings and
criminal records that young people can pick up for different crimes. It
is hard growing up and if you get into a wrong crowd you can soon see
yourself having a criminal record. We at the Young People’s Office
(Peterborough Youth Service) are trying to show young people that it
doesn’t have to be like this and saying no sometimes is a much easier
way out of crime. |

On the evening of Tuesday
the 22nd June, Alice, Peter and I went to Thorney to deliver a
presentation on PYPIN to the local youth club. Around 12 to 15 young
people were there varying in age from about 12 up to 18 (although most
were somewhere in PYPIN between) and four youth workers. |

Last night the

night was amazing. About 250 people turned up to the event and they were
all barraged with badges, CD’s and leaflets that promoted PYPIN! |

Engaging Young
People in Democracy Young People were gathered from all over the country
to explore and discuss issues around young people’s involvement in
democracy. The aim is to advise John Denham minister for youth, on what
can be done to make young people feel involved and included in the
political process and to look at ways to encourage them to vote at the
next general election. |

The objectives
of the Active Involvement Team (AI) are to give the young people of
Peterborough a voice which will be listened to by local Government,
political parties and service providers. It is for the young people of
Peterborough to elect and decide how the Active Involvement Team
develops. Any young person who is a resident of Peterborough has the
right to have their view on decision making heard and listened to by the
Active Involvement Team. If you’re up for it then check out the info
below: |

Appropriate use of ICT is
something for which we all have a responsibility, to ourselves, to our
employers and of course to the young people on whose behalf we work. The
draft policy/guidelines are specifically concerned with Internet access.
It highlights the fact that Internet access now forms the cornerstone of
successful ICT management and covers all planned work activities. |
